LERC will stay engaged and proactive



The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC) Dr. Lawrence D. Sekajipo has assured journalists that LERC will stay engaged and proactive with the media to amplify and promote the services provided by the Commission.

Dr. Sekajipo speaking at a one-day media engagement and workshop organized by the Commission on the Liberia Electricity Sector Regulatory Framework informed participants that LERC has developed and is implementing regulations and codes to “attract private sector investment, and accelerate access to affordable, reliable, and stable electricity services”; noting that “this is our commitment to the people of Liberia”.

He said while the “Commission’s goals are lofty, not many people know who we are, what we do, the difference between the LEC and the LERC, and the functions and powers of the LERC as a Regulatory Body. This is the essence of this Media Engagement and Workshop. We have an untold story or not sufficiently told story for our stakeholders and consumers”.

A member of the interim leadership of the Press Union of Liberia Mr. Teah Domah thanked the Commission for organizing the workshop to acquaint journalists on the work of the Commission. He asserted that the PUL is looking forward to further collaboration with the Commission.

At the media engagement and workshop, each department made various presentations on the various regulatory instruments to give journalists a clear picture on the Liberia electricity sector framework.

Participants at the on-day media engagement thanked LERC for the training and promised to utilize the knowledge acquired to educate the public on the operations of the entity to avoid misinformation. They assured the Commission to use their various platforms to help the LERC improve the energy sector of the country to the benefit of all Liberians.

In attendance at the workshop were members of the Board of Commissioners of the LERC, Commissioner Atty Kla-Edward Toomey, II and Commissioner Amara M. Kamara, acting Managing Director Abu Dekontee Sanso, directors and staff of the Commission.
